Cosmetic Wrinkle reduction injections in Exmouth

Dr Sarah Hall offers cosmetic treatment in Exmouth using botulinum toxin injections for wrinkle reduction. Sarah, a qualified dentist for over 33 years has more than 13 years’ experience in practising facial aesthetics in a safe, professional and regulated environment.

Wrinkle reducing injections are one of the best known and most popular non-surgical treatments for the prevention and treatment of lines and wrinkles, it softens existing expression lines, making overlying skin smoother and creases diminish, restoring a more serene, natural but youthful look.

By using facial muscles repeatedly throughout our lifetime, the skin is creased in areas of greatest use. The ageing process causes collagen and elastin production in the skin to reduce, so as we get older these areas of overuse become damaged and the lines become permanent.

What areas are suitable for wrinkle reducing injections?

The most popular area of use for the cosmetic use of  BOTOX® is the face. By relaxing different facial muscles – from the forehead to the neck – wrinkles can be minimised, resulting in the smoothing of the overlying skin.

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Glabellar frown lines (vertical line between the eyebrows caused by squinting)
  • Crow’s feet (wrinkles on the side of the eyes)
  • Under the eyes (tear trough)
  • Top of the nose (bunny lines)
  • Eyebrow lift
  • Corner of mouth
  • Lipstick lines
  • Chin (to prevent dimpling)
  • Neck
  • Jaw angle

How do wrinkle reduction injections work?

Anti-ageing injections relax the injected muscles, therefore reducing movement. This reduced movement prevents creasing of the skin, hence reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Cosmetic injections work only on the specific muscles injected, leaving surrounding muscles to function as usual maintaining normal facial expression. The results are a smoother, younger-looking appearance which lasts for 4 to 6 months.
Cosmetic injections can be combined with other treatments such as dermal fillers or Profhilo to make your skin look even younger and fresher.

Who can prescribe BOTOX® a prescription only medicine?

Botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine (PoM) that can only be prescribed and given by an appropriately trained healthcare professional, such as a doctor, dentist, pharmacist, or nurse prescriber. Before it can be prescribed you will have a full medical face-to-face consultation with Dr Sarah Hall which is free of charge and without obligation. Unlike some cosmetic clinics, Sarah, as a fully trained healthcare professional will not only conduct the consultation, she will also carry out the procedure, should you fulfil the consultation requirements.

Why do I have to have a consultation and what does it entail?

The period of consultation before any BOTOX® treatment is essential, free of charge and without any obligation, it allows both you and Dr Sarah to ask some very important questions to establish that this treatment is right for you.

She will need to understand:

  • Your full medical history
  • Why you want the procedure
  • Your area of concern and what you want to achieve

The consent form will be explained, which you will be required to sign, once all your questions have been answered.

Patients usually have many questions that they will want answered. Their primary concerns will be around the types of treatment available and the effects they will have. However, there are a number of other questions that should also be asked in order to ensure that the procedure is safe, effective and right for you.

Have time to think it over

You will have the opportunity to arrange a follow-up appointment if you wish. This will give you time to go home and absorb the information you have received during your initial consultation.

You are under no obligation to go ahead with a procedure following a consultation. The decision to have treatment should come from you alone. Some patients wish to go ahead with treatment on the same day as they are confident that all their questions have been addressed.

Last-minute concerns?

It is important that you don’t continue with your procedure if you have any nagging concerns. Sarah will be happy to get to the bottom of any issues that you have so that you are as relaxed as possible going into your procedure.

Anti-Ageing Injection FAQs

Are Botulinum Toxin injections safe?

Anti-ageing injections have been used in medical treatments for over 30 years. It was originally used in the treatment of squints, often in children. Since the late 1980′s, Botox has successfully been used for anti-ageing / anti-wrinkle treatments, revolutionising the cosmetic industry. Remarkable results combined with very few risks and no recovery time has made it the world’s most popular non surgical treatment.

Will I feel any pain?

Anti-ageing injections are relatively painless as the injections are performed using a very fine needle. I use topical local aneathesia to help with any discomfort. The full treatment takes about 15-20 minutes to perform and you are able to drive and go to work the same day.

Are there any side effects?

Most people find that the injections cause only mild local pain and tenderness. Immediately after the injection there may be mild swelling at the injection site which usually subsides within 48 hours. Slight bruising is also possible. Side effects of these treatments are extremely rare.

Occasionally, the treatment may relax nearby muscle groups causing temporary drooping of the eyebrow or eyelids. This may last for a few weeks but will resolve with time. As with any medicine an allergic reaction may occur, this is however quite rare. Conversely there may be some unintended benefits in some people such as easing of tension type headaches as the muscles in the forehead relax.

Botulinum Toxin injections have been used for over 20 years and does not appear to cause any negative long-term effects.

Will I still have expression in my face?

Anti-ageing injection treatments are designed to smooth dynamic wrinkles in the forehead and around eyes, they do not affect your facial expression. The final result can be tailored to each patient and can be discussed at the initial free consultation.

Are anti-ageing injections right for me?

Botox Treatment can be used for treating wrinkles in men and women, however men often need slightly higher doses than women.

It should not be used in

  • People with infection at the proposed injection site.
  • People who have previously had an allergic reaction to Botulinum toxin type A injections.
  • People with muscle problems or chronic diseases affecting the muscles, such as Myasthenia Gravis, Eaton Lambert syndrome.
  • Children under the age of 18 years.
  • Women who are pregnant or breast feeding.

It should be used cautiously in
(please let the doctor know if the following applies to you)

  • People at risk of bleeding as there is an increased risk of bruising post procedure. These include people who have blood clotting disorders such as Haemophilia, those who are taking treatments with anticoagulant medicines such as Warfarin, Heparin, Aspirin and Anti-Inflammatory medicines. Certain herbal remedies such as Gingiko Bilboa, St John’s Wort and Vitamin E
  • People with excessive weakness or wasting in the muscle to be injected, such as those patients with history of Strokes or Bell’s Palsy
  • People with Chronic Breathing difficulties.
How long with the treatments last?

The effects last from 3-6 months. The time between injections becomes longer as the muscle is made weaker with non-useage. When the effect of the anti-wrinkle injection wears off the wrinkles will always return to their pre-treatment state. Treatments can be repeated at a minimum of three monthly intervals, but the effects may last longer for some individuals, especially if they have had previous treatments to the same area.

I offer a follow-up appointment to assess results and make any adjustments necessary – there is no extra charge for this – I want you to be entirely happy with the results.

What is your after care advice ?
  • Try to contract the treated muscle areas for up to four hours after treatment, by frowning and lifting eyebrows to allow the toxin to reach all of the treated muscle.
  • Avoid rubbing or touching the injected areas and avoid having facials and massage for 48 hours this is to ensure that the treatment remains at the site of injection.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise and alcohol-based products on the area treated for 48 hours.
  • If bruising develops the you can apply Arnica cream
